All taxable property in the city is valued by the assessor's office as of January 1 of each year, as required by Chapter 70 of the Wisconsin State Statutes. The assessed value placed on each property is used as the basis for taxation of that property. Changes in assessments may occur annually in the event of new construction, remodeling or sale of a property. The assessor's office still makes house calls to inspect new construction and remodeling projects throughout the city. Appointments can be scheduled for interior inspections, or the assessor will leave a call-back tag for the property owner to call for an appointment.

Residential and commercial property owners who object to their property assessments may appeal assessments made by the assessor's office to the city's Board of Review, which usually meets in May of each year. Appeals to the board of review must be substantiated with factual information on the owners' estimate of property value.

All businesses in the city are required to file a personal property statement with the assessor's office by March 1 of each year. Manufacturing properties are assessed by personnel from the Green Bay office of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. The phone number for that office is (414) 448 5191.

The assessor's office offers the public information about property ownership and sales, assessments, legal descriptions, and dimensions of property and building historical data. Plat maps of the city are available for viewing in the assessor's office. The maps provide accurate dimensions and locations of properties in the city.
