Tammy and
Shane welcome you to this virtual
section of the clerk's office.
Our real office is on the first floor of the city hall, just off
the lobby.
Just what the heck do we do all day?
- We take your general phone calls when you don't know what office
can solve your problem. We commonly get wrong numbers intended
for the Nash, Podvin law office, the state office building, the county
courthouse, municipal court, and Charter Communications. We must
have a lot of answers, because directory assistance often sends
us
some really weird phone calls (Sometimes intended for other communities).
- We process your written requests to the common council.
- We direct you to the right office when you get lost in the
lobby.
- We let you know who your alderperson is.
- We notify you of upcoming meetings and hearings through
notices sent to the newspaper and radio stations, and
posted on this
web site.
- We keep records of city meetings that are held weekly,
including the twice-monthly council meetings. We have
council minutes
dating back to 1869.
- We maintain records of contracts, easements,
rezoning actions, and tax-exempt property.
- We file deeds
and abstracts to
city-owned property.
- We send out ambulance bills and process related
Medicare, Medicaid and other heath insurance claims.
- We handle the city's liability, auto and property
insurance and employees' life insurance.
- We administer city elections and voter lists.
- We issue liquor, day care, transient merchant,
closing out sale, beverage operator, salvage
dealer, and taxicab
business
licenses.
- We process annexation requests.
- We maintain, and assist with development
of, the city's code of ordinances.
- We assign city meeting rooms.
- We handle the city's incoming and
outgoing mail.
- We produce a city guide to services
and departments.
- We administer the redistricting
process after each federal census.
- We maintain the official city
seal and notarize documents.
If you check out the "Permits
and Forms" section
of this web site, you'll find applications for several types of
licenses
and for voter registration and absentee ballots. Check out our weekly
notices and recent council minutes and city ordinances. |
