Special Olympics Polar PlungeMany members of the Department volunteer their time and effort each year to raise money for Special Olympics Polar Plunge by getting pledges to jump into the frigid waters at the Grand Rapids Lion's Club. We welcome all to come out and join us.
Each year officers from our department are involved in the Special Olympics Torch Run. We have an event at Veteran's Park by the river. There is a small ceremony, and then officers and Special Olympics athletes run the "loop" across the Grand Avenue Bridge, through the riverwalk path, and back across the Jackson Street bridge.
Our officers, along with other area law enforcement and volunteer personnel then set out on a bike ride towards Stevens Point. On the outskirts of Stevens Point we meet up with members of the Marshfield Police Department, Stevens Point Police Department, and Portage County Sheriff's Department, and then finish our ride into Stevens Point for the parade.
