GENERAL
OVERVIEW
The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department has four
full-time detectives. Each detective has been trained in general
investigations and death investigation. The detective sergeant supervises
the other detectives and monitors their caseloads. The detectives
have received specialized training in different areas. These areas
of expertise include child/sexual abuse, white-collar crimes, fire
investigations, evidence collection, and drug investigations.
The detectives also participate in various task forces. Detectives
from the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department are members of the Wood
County Fire Investigation Task Force. Members of this task force
are specially trained in the investigation of suspicious fires. This
task force is comprised of law enforcement officers and firefighters.
One detective represents the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department
as a member of the Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force. This task force
is comprised of twelve law enforcement agencies within a seven county
area in central Wisconsin. The task force receives funding from the
Edward Byrne Memorial Law Enforcement Assistance Grant Program, which
is administered by the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance.
This detective follows up and develops leads on drug use in Wisconsin
Rapids.

CENTRAL WISCONSIN DRUG TASK FORCE
The Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force is comprised of the Waushara,
Marquette, Portage, Adams, Juneau, Waupaca, and Wood County Sheriff's
Departments and the police departments from Marshfield, Wisconsin
Rapids, Stevens Point, Waupaca, and Grand Rapids. The task force
is one of thirty-two drug task forces in Wisconsin and is funded
through the federal Edward Byrne State and Local Law Enforcement
Assistance Program. The grant is administered and the money disbursed
by the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance. The Office of Justice
Assistance also collects arrest, incident, and seizure data from
the task force. The data is used to help evaluate the performance
of the multijurisdictional unit, shape the state's Anti-Drug Abuse
Strategy, and provide aggregate statistical information to interested
parties. The statistical data can be reviewed at the Office of Justice

The Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force will continue its effort to
fight drug abuse and drug distribution throughout this multi-county
area. The combined effort of the task force members has had a significant
impact on drug arrests and the availability of illicit substances.
