Wisconsin Rapids Regional Aquatics Center – Coming in 2020
The experience of enjoying year-round recreation in a fun-filled, parklike setting is taking shape here in our city. After years of active public discussion and engagement, the City has broken ground and begun development of the Wisconsin Rapids Regional Aquatics Center at Witter Field. Opening is scheduled in time for the 2020 outdoor pool season.
The Aquatics Center will be nestled amid the Skate Park and Tennis Courts near historic Witter Field Baseball Stadium, mere minutes from our Downtown Riverfront District. The facility will offer every-season recreational activities that appeal to residents and tourists across generations. Features will include: lazy river, zip line, climbing wall, grassy sun areas, bath house, concession stand, reservable shelter, summer park features, winter skating and hockey.
The recreational facility is designed to be as inclusive and accessible to as wide an array of residents and visitors as possible, affirming our community as a destination of choice in which to live, work and play.
A private donor has invested $2.5 million with another $500,000 matching grant and the City is investing $5.5 million into this $12 million project. We expect additional funding, with the City of Wisconsin Rapids and the Mayor's Youth Council coordinating efforts to raise funds from individual donations and corporate contributions. Naming-rights and sponsorship opportunities are available, as well.
Individual contributions, of whatever amount, help us to get closer to our goal.
