681 Chestnut St. Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494 About the WRRC
The WRRC features a skate park, new playground equipment, a splash pad with night illumination, an outdoor shelter, one tennis court, six pickleball courts, lit walkways, and trees and landscaping throughout the park. The WRRC’s aquatics park features three pools. The tot pool has exciting activities, including two water slides, spray features and a tot lazy river. The leisure pool includes a play area, basketball hoops, a water walk, lazy river with a "rapids" action channel, a tube water slide with plunge pool and a body water slide. The recreation pool features basketball hoops, lap swimming, a zip line feature, diving board and a climbing wall. And you can enjoy a snack from the concessions stand on the pool deck, featuring colorful shade structures, furniture and a grass sunbathing berm. The bath house also includes a four-seasons reservable shelter and the admissions area will also serve as a warming house during the winter ice skating season. During the winter months the drop circle will be converted into a large ice skating circle, while a separate area will host low board hockey. The City is still fundraising!
Now, more than ever, our community needs safe, interesting spaces for physical fitness, play and outdoor socializing – all while creating economic development opportunities for area businesses. The WRRC has already seen hundreds of visitors from Wisconsin Rapids and surrounding communities – competing with friends on the pickleball courts, climbing the exciting new playground, cooling off on the splashpad, creating family memories at the Aquatics Center, and more. We have opened the ice skating circle for its first skating season, serving up winter fun for generations to come. And as the pandemic resolves, this unique community asset is sure to draw regional visitors to an area entertainment hub – including Witter Field; McMillan Library; and area restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. Funding Sources A project of this magnitude is no small investment – in fact, a total $12 million project cost was incurred. The Legacy Foundation of Central Wisconsin made a considerable opening contribution of $2.5 million and has pledged an additional matching grant of $500,000, to be raised by June 2021. Connexus Credit Union Promoting the Bull’s Eye Legacy invested $20,000 and WoodTrust Bank invested $10,000. Additional fundraising activities through the Mayor’s Youth Council and other groups has raised approximately $36,000. We applaud each of these donors for their charitable gifts and for their commitment to community. The City has committed to investing $9.5 million through capital borrowing and is looking to fundraise for $1.5 million of its portion, recognizing that every single dollar raised privately is approximately $1.30 less for which taxpayers are responsible. For example, a total investment of $2 million ($1.5 million in donations, plus a $500,000 match) would alleviate an additional $570,444 in loan interest. A donation of any size would be an investment, not only in this monumental project, but directly into the taxpayers who made this project a reality – for residents and nonresidents alike. There are a variety of ways to invest in the WRRC – online, by mail, or by taking advantage of opportunities for naming rights. And NOW is a great time to double your impact, through a $500,000 matching grant opportunity from Legacy Foundation of Central Wisconsin! We have roughly $2M yet to raise. Please donate to the Aquatics Center! Contributions of any amount will help us get closer to our goal.
