The Engineering Department plans, designs, and implements city services that maintain existing facilities and provide a foundation for future growth.  Essential Engineering Department duties include:

Transportation

Transportation engineering services include planning, design, implementation, and construction administration and/or inspection of

• Streets and highways
• Traffic control
• Parking utility
• Railway company communications regarding crossing safety and delays
• Bike trails/sidewalks

Utilities

Engineering services related to utilities include:

• Sanitary sewer collection system design
• Storm sewer system design
• Wastewater treatment plant assistance
• Sewer use fee evaluation
• Design, plan preparation, and construction oversight for sanitary, storm, and water utility infrastructure projects.

Survey and right-of-way management

The Engineering Department and City Engineer manage all aspects of public right-of-way infrastructure including:

• Public works construction project surveys
• Land records and survey control data maintenance
• City property land acquisition and follow-up maintenance
