Important Update Regarding Pet Licensing

​Pet Licenses are no longer available thru the mail, unless you send a self addressed envelope with 75 cents postage and proof of Rabies vaccination from the Vet. Licenses are issued at the Finance Department, 3rd Floor of City Hall. The license year is January 1 through December 31. Please see information below for more details on when to license your pet, late fees, and license fees.

All Cats and Dogs living in Wisconsin Rapids must have a license issued through the City of Wisconsin Rapids if they're over 5 months-old.  All licenses are issued at the Finance Department, 3rd Floor of City Hall.  The license year is January 1 through December 31. Please see information below for more details on when to license your pet, late fees, and license fees.

 Licensing fees: 
  •  Dogs: $3 for neutered or spayed / $8 for male or female
  •  Cats: $2 for neutered or spayed / $5 for male or female       
If you wish to purchase a pet license through the mail, please complete this form and return it to the City Finance Department with your payment for each pet. Please make checks payable to the CITY OF WISCONSIN RAPIDS.  Remember to include a self addressed envelope with 75 cents postage and proof of rabies vaccination. Not just a date of vaccination, PROOF from your vet.

No License will be issued without proof the rabies vacation - State Statute 174.05(10)

Rules for pet owners:
  • Any dog or cat not on the owner's premises must be kept on a leash, and those walking dogs must clean up any fecal material left by the animal.
  • Dogs and cats are not allowed in cemeteries, city boulevards, playgrounds, or parks, except for contests approved by the city.
  • Animals must be restrained from being closer than five feet from a neighbor's property line, and pens must be screened from neighbors' kitchen and living areas.
  • Dogs are not to be allowed to defecate or urinate on others' property.
  • Owners also are responsible for preventing their dogs or cats from bothering neighbors by habitual barking or meowing and for not harboring dangerous animals.

Pet exemption permits:
Persons owning three or more sterilized dogs or cats and persons owning two or more intact (unsterilized) dogs or cats are required to annually acquire Exemption Permits. City ordinance also regulates keeping of farm animals, rabbits, and exotic animals.
