Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin – The City of Wisconsin Rapids Police and Fire Commission announces that, after a search, assessment, and interview process, Daniel J. Hostens has been appointed to serve as Police Chief for the City of Wisconsin Rapids. Hostens has been with the Galesburg, IL Police Department for 26 years, advancing from patrol officer to sergeant, lieutenant and, in 2022, Deputy Chief of Police. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in March 2023. “It is an honor to be selected to serve the community of Wisconsin Rapids and the employees of the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department. I look forward to calling Wisconsin Rapids my home,” said Hostens. Police and Fire Commission President, Bruce King, said, “We are happy to announce Daniel Hostens’ appointment as Police Chief. We had a strong slate of candidates, and it was a tough decision for the Commissioners. We believe that Mr. Hostens is the right person for this important position at this time. Blaser signed the proclamation on Sunday with Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza.
2023's HMong Week is a combined effort between Wood, Portage, and Marathon Countries to celebrate HMong culture and history. The week also serves to bring HMong awareness to local communities. Mayor Shane Blaser has made a proclamation for Public Service Recognition Week, beginning May 7-13, 2023.
This week has been celebrated on the first week of every May since 1985. It is used to recognize and honor the individuals who serve our nation as federal, state, local, and tribal government employees. To see the proclamation click here. Observed every year since 1949, the month is used to raise awareness, educate the public, provide necessary support, and fight the stigma that surrounds mental health.
An estimated 26% of Americans aged 18 and older suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. Mayor Shane Blaser has made a proclamation for Professional Municipal Clerks Week, from April 30th - May 6th, 2023.
