Former East Jr. High Field House to become new polling place, will replace Crossview Commons

7/29/2020

(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 29, 2020)

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The former East Junior High School Field House will become a new polling location for some
Wisconsin Rapids residents, beginning with the August 11 partisan primary election.

Approved by the Common Council on July 21, East Junior High will replace the current polling location of Crossview Commons Church, who cited concerns over the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Voters in Wards 11-21 and Wards 24-29 will now vote at the new location.

The former East Junior High School is located at 311 Lincoln Street; however, the entrance for voting will be located on the 6th Street side of the building.

Residents in Wards 1-10 and Wards 22-23 will continue to vote at the Centralia Center, 220 3rd Avenue S.
To find out where your polling location is, please visit myvote.wi.gov or https://www.wirapids.org/election--voter-information.html

Rapids Rediscovered Grants of up to $10,000 are available when demolishing and/or building a home on lots throughout established neighborhoods in the City

7/27/2020

WISCONSIN RAPIDS -- The Rapids Rediscovered housing investment program, created in 2019, has funding available for constructing homes; $10,000 for demolition and construction, and $5,000 for construction only. The program exists to strengthen existing neighborhoods through reinvestment.

Program basics:
  • builder/buyer completes an application meeting the minimum program requirements (www.wirapids.org/economic-development) and submits the application along with an offer to purchase to the Community Development Department.
  • The Planning Commission and City Council review the application for compliance.
  • The lot is purchased by the builder/buyer.
  • Builder constructs the new home, which shall be completed within 1 year.

To be eligible for the Grant, you must have a purchase agreement for a lot, building plans, financial commitment, and insurance in hand. Prior to the submission of an application a pre-conference is required with the Community Development Department. House design and site development requirements exist which are outlined in the full grant guidelines.

For more information and the application to apply, stop by the Community Development office or call 715-421-8228.
