Weekly Public Works Construction Update

• New retaining wall at Demitz Park

• High Street – 7th Ave N to 10th Ave N

This week City crews completed the installation of new storm sewer in the intersection of 9th Ave N. Crews spent the remainder of the week hammering through rock for the new 8” watermain. Next week City crews will complete the utility installation between 9th Ave N and 10th Ave N and begin final work at the intersection of 10th Ave N. High Street remains closed from 7th Ave N to 10th  Ave N with no driveway access to residents in the 900 block. The intersection of 10th Ave N and High Street will also be closed next week for utility construction. Visu-sewer will also be on site August 1st to line the sanitary main between 7th Ave N and 8th Ave N.

• Wastewater force main river crossing

With the new switching valves in place and the boring across the river close to complete, Crews are planning to pull the new 20” sanitary force main pipe across the river next Monday. The new plastic pipe is fused together located along the road right-of-way awaiting next Monday.

• West Side Lift Station

Rock excavation is complete for the new lift station structure. This week crews excavated more rock for the lift stations 33’ deep sump pit. Crews plan to set forms for the sump pit next week.

•  Wisconsin River Green Space and Recreation Project

This week Janke Construction completed the trail south of the Riverview Expressway bridge. They finished the concrete retaining wall north of the bridge and began pouring the trail along the retaining wall. They installed the concrete sidewalk leading to the kayak launch, placed stone and sand for the kayak launch/beach area and positioned sitting stones along launch. They also poured sections of the trail within Demitz Park. Subcontractor Current Technologies was onsite and began trenching and installing electrical conduit. Next week Janke plans to complete the kayak launch and remove the sheeting used for dewatering. The remainder of the trail along the concrete retaining wall will also be finished. They will then move on to 2nd Street and begin work on the trail near Mead Street. Current Technologies will be onsite continuing conduit installation.

•  High Street – 12th Ave N to 17th Ave N

Construction of this next segment of High Street is planned to begin mid-August. An engineering walk through meeting with residents will occur next Wednesday weather permitting. Work consists of reconstructing existing 36' wide roadway with 3.5" asphalt and 9" base course. New curb & gutter and sidewalk will be constructed on both sides of the roadway. Underground utilities including sanitary sewer, water main, storm sewer and service laterals will also be replaced. Construction is expected to go into late fall.

•  Van Buren Street – 8th Ave N to 10th Ave N

Construction of Van Buren St. is planned to begin early August. Work consists of widening the existing 30' roadway to 36' with 2- 1/2" asphalt and 7" base along with new curb & gutter.
